A Raytown Connection
Former Raytown resident Dick Stacer built this 1/12 (one inch = one foot) replica of President Harry S. Truman's home in 1982.
The model was constructed based solely on photographs. The Secret Service would not allow Stacer to take measurements or up close photos since Bess Truman was living there at that time.
Stacer died in 2011, but his beautiful work can be seen on display at the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum.

The Raytown Rotary Club applied for and was granted a Matching District Grant to install wayfinding signs and markers along the Rock Island Trail through Raytown MO.  The goal of which is to attract users of the trail to local business that are in the downtown area of Raytown and the surrounding locations.  Along with this, Rotarians installed wayfinding signs to identify local amenities and government offices, such as City Hall, Police station, Colman Park, The Historical Society Museum, and the Chamber of Commerce.  Wayfinding signs were installed on common traffic signposts, 2”x2” square tubing 8’ tall, and attached to the ground with an additional 2’ sleeve with breakaway bolts with help from the City of Raytown Public Works Department.  The signs were designed and ordered partnering with the Raytown Rotary Club and the Raytown Main Street Association.  The Main Street Association purchased materials and were reimbursed by the Raytown Rotary Club.  Dig Right was contacted to mark any utility lines and cables on the installation locations.  A marquis sign was installed with a map to show users of the trail where they are currently located and what the area of Raytown has to offer.  The Marquis sign is topped with the Rotary International logo, so that people will know who sponsored the project.

People using the trail will be able to see what the downtown area of Raytown has to offer for businesses and restaurants, as well as the city government amenities and attractions.  Local businesses should also see benefits to their businesses with more people being informed of what is surrounding the trail in the downtown area, and how close the trail users are to these businesses and attractions.  With the FIFA World Cup being housed at the local Chiefs stadium where the Rock Island Trail terminates, we expect a huge amount of people will be using the trail during the month-long World Cup event in the Kansas City metro area.

In Rotary year 2024-25, the Raytown Rotary Club partnered with a local Math & Science club called LEARN and received a Grant for $2500 to purchase kit cars to be modified for young kids with movement limitations.

Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone deserves a decent place to live.  They host a quarterly workshop series of 9 classes on topics to educate and empower first time homebuyers. If they complete all 9 classes they receive a certificate and tool kit to help them maintain their new home.  These classes provide attendees with basic budgeting, saving, credit building and home maintenance skills.
